Google Adsense - The misuse of photographs HOME Since Google Adsense introduced advertisers have been trying to increase their click rates because the higher the click rate the more money a webmaster will earn. In relevant forums and in performance tests it turned out that one can increase the click rate by 400 percent if one places pictures beside the ad units. Pictures (30 x 30 pixels) are usually placed on the left hand side of the ad units and these draw the viewers eyes to the ads. However, since it is expressly stressed in the guidelines of Adsense not to direct the visitor's attention to the Ads through additional measures, Google has now decided to universally prohibit pictures beside the ads. This ultimate ban has discouraged webmasters from asking Google adsense such borderline questions as “what kind of pictures can I use” or “how much distance must be between the pictures and the ads”. This allows the support center to have 50 percent more time for other matters. It also means that web sites will no longer be produced for arbitrage reasons and they will also lose some conversion power. For the visitors of a web site, however, the Surf experience should improve because even if a Web designer should try to attract a visitors attention with outlandish graphics through the design layout the temptation to use this technique to improve click rates is far too great. So to sum up, Basically it is illegal to use pictures to encourage viewers to click on ads. HOME |
